live vicariously through me, please

where to go?  where to go?

i am heading to england on december 19th for a friend's wedding that will take place on december 23rd and i am most excited for the whole event and to be back in the uk.  but i want to take a trip somewhere after the wedding, somewhere that is relatively easy to get to from england so i can hop on a cheap flight.  but there seem to be so many options!  and the weather is not particularly grand anywhere at that time of year so i am having trouble deciding where i want to go.

have you travelled in europe, north africa, or the middle east in december?  where would you recommend going at this time of the year?  any places that you would go to in a heart beat, regardless of the time of year, if given the opportunity?

help me find a place to travel!!

I've been to northern Europe in December and it can be a cold, wet misery. If you can swing it, go south to Seville or Lisbon.

I definitely haven't been in December, but southern Spain sure does sound nice...

both great suggestions! what do you think about a road trip through ireland?? that is what i am currently considering.

the food doesn't sound as good, but the beer would make up for it!
(actually, I think there's a bit of a "foodie revolution" going on in Ireland and you can get some really good food there these days...and you know that's my priority when I travel :)

yes to ireland!!! it will be chilly but it is defintely one of my favorite places, and it's easy to get around. i know you would love it.
otherwise i would suggest spain. a little warmer and not near as expensive as italy, france, etc.

or turkey, i've always wanted to go to turkey...well ever since mom told us that is where she got that gold bracelet. for some reason that made me want to go there...

i know! i want to go to turkey for a number of reasons, including that gold bangle!

turkey was under consideration until i found out that it can be rather chilly in december and if i am going to turkey, i might as well go when it is warm.

ireland will still be green though so between the rain and the grey, which i hope is not CONSTANT, it looks like it is the front runner right now.

keep throwing ideas out there if you have any though!

I was going to say Turkey, but it sounds like you may have ruled it out. It is my absolute favourite place in the world so far. I was there in July....and would recommend not going then because it is way too freakin' hot. Either way, I hope you end up there some day. It is a must see. India???? Not really close to England, but you would have to fly through there anyway and being halfway would make the flight a lot cheaper. I can't imagine that it is ever cold and is an unbelievable experience.

thanks for all the ideas!!

it looks like a 2 week long roadtrip around ireland is it! no flights to the isle of green booked yet, but that should be done shortly.

and now i must just practice up my driving skills so i don't cross over the centreline!
