the canadian female athletes are doing amazing things in torino and i am really happy that now so many young girls can have such positive role models. it beats the pop stars and hollywood set as examples of female lives well-lived. and i honestly believe that olympic athletes doing it for the love of their sport are much more honourable than the professional athletes doing it for the love of the sport AND the money they receive to do it. pretty easy to take a month off your day job if your day job goes on hiatus until you return.
as my mom says, "Canadian women are amazing everyone at the Games, so much for those men...maybe they should start playing like girls!!!" since when do we encourage boys to play more like girls?! i think it is about time.
5th in the medal standing with 24 medals overall is damn good for the little nation that could. pretty impressive when we are only one medal behind the us, with all their fancy training facilities, big dollar incentives, and huge population. right on canada!

Our athletes can't do it for the money so much, seeing as they don't get a lot. But Canadians do well we know that heart can motivate and move us more than all the endorsements ever could. It's so exciting that we are doing so well...way to go Nfld on the curling gold!
i met those wicked curling dudes from newfoundland in torino, they were enjoying the olympic atmosphere as much as anyone and were so friendly. my only regret is not getting a photo with russ!
and cheers to cindy klassen for carrying our flag in the closing ceremonies, she deserves it! i cannot even imagine what kind of shape she is in to compete at that level in so many distances.

Im sure you dont remember but you met cindy at my and aarons house at one of our parties, she is good friends with stew and he and i did a few training rides with her.(ring a bell?)so proud of our fellow canadians and the sportsmenship they show....
i honestly think i would have remembered that. i only met stew once i think and he was with his girlfriend if i remember correctly, who was in fact NOT cindy!!
I'm probably a bit biased, but after being bombarded with American coverage in Alaska, I definitely think Canada takes a different, more positive approach to sporting. Canadians seem to be a little more team/country oriented. Do you remember the time Kurt Browning apologised for not winning for his country? Sooooo Canadian!
As for the role model bit...AMEN, Lara. Out with Britney and Jessica, in with Cindy and Haley.
