it's official, i'm a brit!

a brand spanking new uk passport arrived at home for me to collect, which excites me incredibly. now i can check those boxes on job applications that ask if i am legally entitled to work in the uk with YES. i am all ready to fill my new passport with stamps, unless of course i am travelling to other eu countries and then i will use my canadian passport so i can still get stamps. i am a passport stamp addict!

and now when people ask me i can say i am canadian AND british. although let's be serious, i will always be more canadian than anything.

You mean you can check those boxes on applications with confidence, instead of checking them and being a tad unsure if you will actually be legally able to work in the UK or not. But tis so exciting to be an real brit now!! I was just faking it before....with my british slang and all.

well you do use the slang well, except of course for 'hello moto,' haha. and yes, you are right, i have been checking those boxes YES all along but now i might actually get an interview since the bad job karma from being less than 100% truthful was probably attached to those applications.

ok, so i was entirely correct with my prediction that the bad job karma has disappeared because i got an interview next week! but i have do this presentation, get my suit hemmed, and figure out travel arrangement between now and then. and....finish a thesis!

That is frickin' cool. Hope to join that '2 passports' club someday. Congrats on the interview!

yes, i think we should think up a 2 passport club secret handshake for those of us with dual nationality!

however, a friend pointed out to me the other day that if they ever decide to draft people i'd be out of luck. good thing women are not allowed to fight on the front lines in the uk, i guess.

i wonder if this means i get to vote here. if there is one thing i love more than collecting passport stamps, it is voting!

and if you think i am kidding, you obviously don't know me well enough.

oh there's no question about it...i'd renounce my citizenship if they started drafting. but for now, it is just fun to have some the ability to work "down there".

Lara,

All the best to you as you reach the finish line on your thesis. And good luck on your upcoming interview!

Glad you found my card from our meet-up in Amsterdam. I've wondered what became of you.

Just hope that the King Prat's (Blair) Orwellian authoritarian streak doesn't continue into G. Brown or else you might have to renounce Canadian citizenship, move to London yelling "England prevails" at the top of your lungs, and be forced to watch Coronation Street everyday for the rest of your life as a test of your loyalty to the Crown! If you're not with us, you're against us! Ugh!
